This saying is true: “A bible that’s falling apart is usually owned by someone that isn’t.”
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed. 2 Tim.3:16-17
But our grossly limited understanding can never comprehend the designs of God. My mountains are real problems and challenges, overwhelming and scary. I tried hard to figure out how to make them disappear, and Eureka, I found it: If I can get the seven Ms behind Me - Money, Men, Machines, Materials, Methods, Minutes and Motivation then my mountains would be lifted. So I ignored the real mountains and started chasing Ms.

Number one on my list was money, for money answers all things. My mountains would be levelled once I get dough, or so I thought - I would meet the right people, get the right gadgets, devise a game plan, create time and induce encouragement. But I was wrong, chasing shadows. Getting the Ms turned out to be newer mountains. And the last time I checked, my mounts had grown taller and it seems I added those extra piles.

How did I get here in the first instance? I cried out for help but the mountains echoed my voice, frightening me the more. Who’s gonna rescue me from this mess that I put myself in? As I sat in the pit, depressed and despondent, Wisdom came to me.

I missed it from the very start; what was I thinking, focusing on mountains? I said to myself, lift up your eyes beyond the mountains, to the God of the mountains for the mountain maker is a mountain mover and shaker. Why beg the mountains when you know the mountain maker?

The suppressed words just started coming: By muscle and mentality shall no man prevail; Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from the Lord; Some trust in chariots, some in horses; but I will remember the name of the Lord; My hope is built on nothing else, but Jesus Christ and Righteousness.

So I Shifted my gaze and fixed it on God. As I waited, He lifted up my head and gave me the strength to mount up with wings, run without giving up and walk without fainting. I surmounted all my mountains and as if that was not enough, goodness and mercy now chases me around with Money, Men, Machines, Materials, Methods, Motivation and Minutes.

Now I speak to mountains, not to glorify them or make them bigger than they really are, but to pack their dirty stinking ass out of my way. They don’t even wait for me to speak anymore, they run when they see me coming.

I look up to the mountains; does my strength come from mountains? No, my strength comes from GOD, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains. Psalm 121:1-2 (MSG)

Just Today!

There are two days in every week about which we should not worry-two days which should be kept from fear and apprehension. One of these days is yesterday with its mistakes and cares, its aches and pains, its faults and blunders.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone.

The other day we should not worry about is Tommorow with its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and poor performance. Tomorrow is beyond our immediate control. Tomorrows sun will rise either in splendor or behind a mask of clouds-but it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is as yet unborn.

That leaves only one day-Today. Any man, by the grace of God can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities-Yesterday and Tomorrow-that we break down.

There is a little finishing canter before coming to a standstill. There is time to hear the kind voices of friends and say to oneself, the work is done. Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr

For me, cooking skills came by necessity. While I was still like six years old, my mum became ill requiring long hospitalization and as the eldest child, fate bequeathed on me the necessity of taking care of my siblings, especially mixing chemicals in the kitchen for them to eat. What I prepared then were not so much of what I can call food and my siblings have to eat the end products of the chemical reaction whether palatable or not. Anyway I have grown in no small measure in my cooking over the years.

Recently, somebody told me I stare too much at things and my reply was that almost anything inspires me and I try as much as possible to concentrate on something until the candle is lighted in my spirit. It was therefore not surprising when I woke up this morning. I had put some water on the cooker for me to prepare some oats for breakfast. On getting to the cooker with my oat hoping the water has boiled, all I could hear was hissing noise which became louder by the second. As a veteran cook (lol), I could remember mum telling me not to pour the flour for amala into the hissing water because its not yet boiling. Pouring the flour at that time will not produce amala.

Now thats it! Many have poured their yam flour into hissing water thus messing up the preparation of their amala, botching the outburst of their greatness and ruining all their efforts at the tail end. Many a man walks on the road of life with a disease I call near-greatness syndrome. They have been on the road walking the way, gathering the necessary momentum for greatness but just when the glimpse of greatness was shinning ahead, they became complacent. This is because at that time, many can palpate their imminent success and much noise start developing around them making them feel they have arrived when the water is yet to boil.

This quarter-to-boiling season is a very dangerous point in the life of every man. People who didnt see you in the days of cold beginning wants to associate with you. Men who didnt know you during the seasons of warm believing will now start shouting and singing praises because your water is about to boil. Even the molecules of your emotions are at an excited state now and the probability of falling for the deception of these noises increase.

As I was typing this article on my system, I remembered the story of a sportsman I had read a while ago. Aleh Yurenia , a citizen of Belarus recently won silver in the 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championship. Yurenia slowed down in the last lap apparently sure of his victory because the crowd went wild that he had won. It was like a dream to him when Max Hoff of Germany passed him to win gold in the mens 5000m single Kayak event. It was a serious disaster. The times of our life when we are on the verge of a very important achievement are always very critical. This is the time when your guard should be up most. This is the time when you need extra dose of sensitivity to discern men in your life.

I enjoy watching Usain Bolt run anytime any day! It is amazing the gap he wins with when he runs, yet he never slows down until the final mark is crossed. He runs as if he is running against himself and no other person matters. Racing against self! Yes! Thats the way we should run in our pursuits. As men on the quest of destiny, the noise of the world should spur us on the more and not distract us from the prize ahead, or make us complacent in our pursuit. Life is a track race and as runners, men will make noise when you are leading, but dont stop because of the noise. There is a time for the congratulations and it is not now! Dont relax, keep running. Its not over until it is over.

The water will always hiss before actually boiling. As a good cook, the hissing of the water should make you increase the fire under the pot and not lowering it. There is a very big difference between a glimpse and a stare. Dont quit on the edge of greatness. Dont build monuments around your achievements. As this year runs out, I had been thinking about the things I can call achievements of the year. I dont ever want to be complacent because what I am racing against is me, Me and ME!!! Till next time, zoom off to greatness! Thou art blessed!

Don’t fuss about what’s on the table at mealtimes or if the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your inner life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body.

Look at the ravens, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, carefree in the care of God. And you count far more. Has anyone by fussing before the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch?

Walk into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They don’t fuss with their appearance—but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them. If God gives such attention to the wildflowers, most of them never even seen, don’t you think He’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?

What I’m trying to do here is get you to relax, not be so preoccupied with getting so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.

Steep yourself in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. Don’t be afraid of missing out. You’re my dearest friends! The Father wants to give you the very kingdom itself.

Confession is a formulary of faith, and faith, believing without evidence, comes by hearing God. Without believing, confessing is fake, fraud, and flattery, like a tree without roots.

Confessing scriptures without believing in your heart is mere positive speaking; heart work must precede mouth talk. Trying to work out the words of God on lips alone can be compared to an attempt to run a program not installed on a computer by mere copying of its desktop icon. Nothing will happen when you click, except that you will get a message reminding you of your error.

Believing installs the word of God in the heart while confessing activates it. Lip service cannot effect any positive change or deliver any meaningful result. Confessing without believing may result in shame and ridicule, but anyone who believes in Him will not be disappointed. The saying is true: if you believe, you will receive.

DON'T QUIT

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

Taking off and landing requires such an enormous amount of energy. Birds breathe faster than any other animal to meet up with the energy requirement for flying. For example, a flying pigeon breathes 450 times each minute, as opposed to 30 times per minute for a human that is running.
No wonder, even youths faint, and young men give up on flying but those who depend on God will find fresh strength and fly high on wings like eagles. The ground level is over saturated. It’s time to fly.

"I know where I am going. At the very first, the LORD gave life to me. When I was born, there were no oceans or springs of water. My birth was before mountains were formed or hills were put in place. It happened long before God had made the earth or any of its fields or even the dust.

I was there when the LORD put the heavens in place and stretched the sky over the surface of the sea. I was with him when he placed the clouds in the sky and created the springs that fill the ocean. I was there when he set boundaries for the sea to make it obey him, and when he laid foundations to support the earth. I was right beside the LORD, helping him plan and build. I made him happy each day, and I was happy at his side. Before God created the heavens and earth as it is today, the earth was an empty and a formless mass engulfed in deep darkness. God started work by switching on the Lights. He introduced light and darkness was overwhelmed, although it still struggled for relevance alongside light. God called a truce, separated light from darkness and christened them day and night respectively. He decorated ‘day’ with the sun and spiced up ‘night’ with the moon and the stars.

That to me is FORM, for formlessness is the lack of order, procedure and structure. One can only wonder what the World will look like without both Night and Day. God continued to introduce structure and shape to the world. He separated water from waters and land from waters, ending up with the Sky, dry Land and the Seas.

With the formations clearly defined, God moved on to add content and substance. He filled the Dry land with plants and animals, the seas with fishes and other life, and the sky with birds and flying creatures. He later blessed all creatures to flourish w.r.t their given boundaries, the ocean, the land and the space.

This procedure is still relevant for creating something good out of nothing:

• Introduce light

Darkness is default, you don’t need to subscribe to it. Therefore, the first step in the direction of solution is the introduction of light. “For nothing is hid that shall not be made manifest, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light” - Luke 8:17. Or what woman having 10 silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp…before sweeping? The Spirit of a man is the Lord’s lamp, searching all his innermost parts. Put on the lamp.

• Set up a system and put structures in place

Create an enabling environment that is supportive of continuous growth and improvement. Only a well defined structure can guarantee a long lasting creation. Introducing a solid structure takes time, maybe because it’s a bit permanent and may not be made over without damage or destruction. If the land is well founded and the water is bad, Elisha can do something but if the foundation is crooked, what can the righteous do?

• Add substance and content.

Start filling with the right substance. Content is prime!

However, there is a warning:

NEVER ATTEMPT THIS PROCEDURE ON YOUR LIFE WITHOUT THE SUPERVISION OF THE POTTER, JESUS CHRIST. YOU CAN ONLY GROW WORSE ON YOUR OWN.

"For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told..."

“For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it”

- Habakkuk 1:5b

SHAKE OFF THE CHAMELEON

“…if the devil cannot stop you from becoming a tree, he will want to make you a useless, unproductive tree…”

For those who are not followers of my write-ups, I recently wrote an article titled ‘Shake off that lizard’, which provoked many thoughts. I received a lot of mails and comments imploring me to develop the write-up into a book. Although this is not as much of a yielding to the temptation of writing a book on the topic; but I have somehow found the concept interesting that I was motivated for more research as regards it.

Since the first part of this article was posted, I have been researching and studying on lizards and ants. I have found a lot of interesting things which I am compiling together and will share some with you on this forum. One of such interesting thing is what you are about reading. There are many species of lizards and the chameleon belongs to one of such species. Yes, the chameleon!

The chameleon is a specie of lizard which has very interesting characteristics which are more sinister and dangerous than those of an ordinary lizard in the context of our discussion. When the Lizards operating in a man’s life are chameleons, the devil must really be at a fight-to-finish with such a person. Chameleons are the devil’s joker in the game of purpose. He just plants them in a man’s life to propel unanticipated and surprising actions that can destabilize a man on a pursuit. You must really be extra-sensitive to deal with them.

Some of the characteristics of chameleons that are of significance to our discussion are outlined as follows;

It has an extensile tongue.

The chameleon’s tongue is remarkably extensile and is sticky at the end, enabling the chameleon to easily capture ants and other insects, its main source of food. It can stand far away yet be able to eat whatever it has identified as edible afar off. Lizards don’t have to specifically get close to you to operate in your sphere. You need to be extra-careful to deal with them.

They can stay seemingly afar off and still be able to operate in your domain. This is why the shaking off you must do is an utter shaking off and real chasing away. You can’t afford to be diplomatic with issues that affect your ability to fulfill purpose and achieve greatness. Chase lizards far! Some people use pretense as a coping mechanism when dealing with challenging issues of social relationships with others. You must not pretend that you are not seeing an individual whose actions in your life are ‘lizardic’ (when did I become Wole Soyinka?), that would be very ‘hazardic’! (Again?). You just have to confront such men and let them know their standing with you. Negligence in this issue may be disastrous to destiny pursuit.

It can change colour.

This is the widely known characteristic of a chameleon. This makes a chameleon very dangerous for a man on a road of destiny. Chameleons can change and attach themselves to you without you knowing what they really are. This very core adaptability of the chameleon allows it to escape death and danger. This is however not peculiar to the chameleon, many lizards are also cryptically colored—that is, they blend in with their environment and are hard to see. It takes very discerning eyes to identify them. Always have your guards up to identify ‘lizardic’ individuals when they come into your domain and quickly address them. If you give them breathing space, they will not be easily recognized again because they would have mixed into your daily life (changed colour to reflect normalcy) that you just tend to rationalize away their actions. That is why every man must add to his purposefulness, good sight. Both spiritual and physical. Don’t be too busy looking at the map of where you are going, occasionally look around to see who is with you on the journey and assess their contributions to your pursuit.

However, one very important thing all of us have to know is that chameleons may not necessarily be men; they may be other things such as little habits that has come to stay with us unconsciously. A profound statement that I like goes thus: things that make men fall from grace to grass followed them from grass to grace. That is the classical operational mode of a chameleon! Deal with those little chameleons you are seeing now because they will not show their true colour until you become a tree. A man going far should be able to see farther, see deeper, see higher and most importantly see clearer.

Chameleons are specially adapted to live on trees. Trees are usually easily identified in the community of plants. They are taller, fatter, have bigger leaves and fruits, provide shades for others and so on; so also are purposeful men who are in pursuit of destiny fulfillment and potential maximization. They are trees in the community of men!

Chameleons don’t have to walk on a tree; they can just hang with their very powerful tails. When such men hang on you, they appear seemingly non-detrimental. Chameleons also have special arrangement of their feet that allows them good grab on a tree. This makes lizardic’ men thrive on men who are tree-like. If you aspire to be a tree, beware of a chameleon.

Chameleons eat insect; this is a very important reason why you need to deal with them. Elementary science taught us that insects are one of the important agents of pollination for flowers and flowers are the precursors for fruits. Once flowers are not pollinated, fruits cannot develop. Without insects you can’t be productive. Chameleons act by destroying the agents of pollination of your flowers of purpose thus inhibiting the productivity and fruitfulness of your life as a tree. A tree without fruit is a serious waste of heaven’s resources. We all know what Jesus did to the fruitless fig tree. That is the purpose of the devil; if he cannot stop you from growing to become a tree, he wants to make you a useless tree that is unfit for purpose. Be on the look out for chameleons!

Till I post again, shake off that lizard!

Like other days, I had woken up quite early as the rays of the sun filter through the thickness of darkness to birth a new day. This season in Maiduguri is very hot with temperatures getting to half boiling point on normal days, so I actually slept outside under the full glare of the clouds, stars, moon and most importantly God (since the bible says ‘He holdeth back the face of His throne and spreads the cloud upon it’ Job 26:9).

In order to start the day as usual with God, I got a chair from the room and placed in the open enjoying the cool breeze of the day as I lift my voice to worship God, pray and meditate. It was in the course of my meditation that I noticed some lizards that had woken up, just like I had and were trying to look for what to eat. They had gathered to pick up small black ants which have congregated around grains of sugar which I cleaned out from my sugar can the previous day. At the sight of the lizards, I remembered my dream overnight for which I had been asking the Holy Spirit for understanding. The dream involved a lizard that I shook off while trying to crawl up my hand as I tried to pick something. At that moment, the inspiration came for this write up. My spirit began to concentrate on the lizards and I started gaining some insight into the allegorical codes in my dream- the ants, the lizard and the shaking off.

THE ANTS: Life is a pursuit. A pursuit of goals, dreams, aspirations, desires and whatever fulfillment for a core need. However only a fool continues in a line of pursuit that has no indication or clue to the presence of a gratifying entity at the end. Well, except that man is working on faith on a CLEAR instruction from God. Life is a pursuit of gratifications. Ants are therefore like the pointers to a presence of gratification in our line of pursuit. The gathering of ants definitely signifies the presence of something sweet or at least food. However these ants are small and it only takes a clear vision to notice them on our way. If there are no ants on your way, there is probably nothing sugary in that path.

THE LIZARD: The gathering of ants is an invitation to lizards. Do you still remember the food chain you were taught in ecology in secondary school? Lizards are reptiles that predates on ants. They feed on ants. As I concentrate and meditate on the scene of the big Lizard before me, I wander how many of those small ants can satisfy the hunger of the lizard? However the presence of the lizard is not just about the ants but about the man trying to pursue a path where he has found ants-indicators of presence of gratification. In my meditation, I stumbled on the following

1.Lizards eat ants. Since ants are like pointers to the success of your pursuits, they represent the image of men who eat up those pointers thus making your pursuit look unattractive and empty.. They deflate your passion, puncture your motivation and belittle your dream. These are not the kind of men you must take along on your pursuit. However even when you don’t take them along, since they are attracted to signs of impending success, they will always find their way along with you. You must shake off such men before they make you shake off your dream.

2. Lizards nod. One very striking and easily noticed characteristic you will see in a lizard is nodding. Lizards represent men who are always nodding in agreement to your propositions even when you are going wrong. They are sycophants who keep inflating your ego until you crash. They never tell you the truth about what is happening they only tell you what they think you want to hear or what will be pleasing to your hearing so that they can continue gaining and profiting. As a person with a leadership inclination, I appreciate men when they say it as it is to my face because I know the dangers of sycophancy. They are flatterers! They don’t care about what is happening to you, once what they tell you will boost their favour in your sight. Such men are dangerous for your success.

3. Lizards run on their belly. Taxonomy taught us that lizards are reptiles and so they run on their belly. This is almost the same with what has been discussed above. They are men that are only interested in their belly at the expense of your future. They can eat you up alive. Beware of such men.

4. Lizards live in groups. If you don’t deal with one quickly, you will soon see another one strolling in until they become an undefeatable nuisance to you. A lizard is enough nuisance to crash your destiny. Deal with it and do it fast. Don’t give lizards space to breathe or breed. They respond to chasing, chase them far.

SHAKING OFF: Mind you, these men will definitely show up on your road to destiny whether you like it or not. But you must be very sensitive to discern and quickly shake them off. They don’t care whether you are friendly or you are not. You don’t deal with such men emotionally. If you don’t shake them off, they are on an assignment from the devil with a vision to make you useless and unfulfilled; and a mission to ensure you are derailed from the track of fulfillment using sycophancy and discouragement. Common, shake off that lizard!
Oh my God! I am late for class. See you next time.

Boy

My life’s more than a fable

All I ever wanted was available

I club, bubble and gamble

blowing money like bubbles

My 32 were always in royal rumble

with chicken, chip and ‘crunchables’

Ladies I slay in doubles

my way of being respectable

Now, life is a very hot crucible

ladies gone to greenly pastured stables

No family or friend dependable

so lonely and despicable

Everyday has been a chain of troubles

Pigs now spare me stuff off their tables

My ribs and collar bones palpable

on my life poverty nibbles

In my thoughts one day I stumbled

going back may be the only way pliable

All I’ve done may be pardonable

If Father’s presence is approachable

Father, I’ve done things not laudable

A thought of being your son inconceivable

I’ve been a child so irresponsible

Please take me back, I’ll scrub marble

As I approach home with gait unstable

My glimpse He caught afar off like pebble

Waiting for me? Impossible!

‘Just praying He’ll find me forgivable

Towards me He came, unbelievable!

In His out stretched arm I tumbled

Dad! my past ways are unacceptable…

“Son! Explanations, not applicable”

Father’s love is so incredible

Even if you think you are incorrigible

Stop thinking! His ways are indecipherable

Come now! His MERCY is still accessible
